BPD new diagnosis
Hey,
I’ve just been diagnosed with BPD and my head is rushing with emotions and fear.
I have just come out of a divorce with someone who I love very much, due to having this undiagnosed for so long.
The loneliness and abandonment is real, and the guilt about the things I put my partner through. But now looking back I can see how much I’ve also put my family through
Guys please tell me treatment works 🙏

Re: BPD new diagnosis
Hi @RA28
Welcome to the Forums. My name is Hanami and I am one of the peer support workers at SANE. It is nice to have you with us.
I'm sorry to hear about how you're feeling about your diagnosis of BPD. I imagine how daunting the idea is for you and understand that must be really challenging.
We have lots of members who have the diagnosis of BPD and have been recovering well. If you search BPD or Borderline Personality Disorder in the search bar a lot of different posts will show up that you can connect to.
In particular there are these two pages you might like to have a read of
Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script
or
If you would like to talk to someone you might want to consider the SANE Support Centre. It is available to support anyone from 10am-10pm Monday to Friday. We have counsellors and peer support workers available to support you via phone (1800 187 263). We also have the SANE Guided services which is our new guided service that provides free digital and telehealth services and ongoing tailored support to people over 18 years of age with complex mental health needs and their families and carers SANE Guided Service. Both are free of charge.
Sometimes just talking to someone that is understanding and non-judgemental can really help and of course the SANE forum community is here for anyone 24/7.
Please take care and reach out for support if you need to.
Warm regards,
Hanami

Re: BPD new diagnosis
Hi @RA28,
Welcome to the Forums. My name is FloatingFeather and I am one of the peer support workers at SANE. It is nice to have you with us.
It is brave of you to reach out and share a little of your story with us. I think you emotions around your diagnosis are understandable and probably pretty common but I do want to try and help allay your fears a little. BPD is very treatable - with the right specialised treatment most people with BPD can and do get better. You have come to a good place to find support and lived experience advice. I think one of the best places to start around a new diagnosis of anything is to seek support from peers. People that have been there and knows how it feels, what the treatment options are, experience around how they coped, etc. I also think another way to help process what is happening is to read information from reputable sources (not Dr Google) so you have a better understanding of things.
I think anytime people are diagnosed with something that may be confronting it takes sometime to process what is going on and the fear response is often atypical. I would encourage you to be kind to yourself, this is a lot to deal with and you need support and understanding. I wish you all the best.
Warm wishes,
FloatingFeather

Re: BPD new diagnosis
Hi and welcome, @RA28 . We have 2 members on here who say that the treatment for BPD works...I'm not sure if they're around at the moment, but I will tag them... @BPDSurvivor @tyme
An important forum tip is if you type @ and then click on a name in the drop-down box, that person will get a notification and won't miss your reply.
I hope you find the forums supportive...
