Any teachers out there struggling?

Hi, I'm a teacher who is really struggling with anxiety around the job.  I've been a primary teacher for over 20 years now, but the job has just become so stressful for me even when things are going well.  I tried cutting back my hours to cope but it still stresses me day in and day out.  I go over things in my head, in the middle of the night and can't stop stressing over all the expectations that are put on myself. It's now turned into a feeling of dread that comes over me with no real reason and lingers most days and only goes when I distract myself or drink. I had a seriously unsupportive boss for years and had a few really difficult classes, which have probably triggered all this anxiety but now, even when things are OK the anxiety is just always there.  I am thinking it's time to leave the job but it's not easy where I live to find alternatives.

You are not alone @skttrbrain !

We have so many teachers here on the forums and hence under 'spaces', we have an Educator's Hub.

I'm sure you are not alone with how you are feeling, and hence so many walking out of the job. In my area, they are crying out for teachers and pretty much anyone who is registered and willing gets a job. Unfortunately, that means quality goes down. It also means high staff turnover which means those who stay have to pick up the pieces of those who leave.

I notice you said you had an unsupportive boss. That is very stressful in itself. Did you ever reach out to EAP services?

With your current anxiety, what do you think it is around? No meeting targets? Incidents at school? Not being able to manage?
