Isolation

I suffer from anxiety and have pushed a lot of people out of my life, I don't like hanging around people much. Don't have much of a social life. I rather be on my own a lot. This is going to lead to a very lonely life and I'm only 28 im supposed to be social. I'm so comfortable on my own and just can't tolerate people anymore. I'm worried for my future. Any advice?

I dont know the solution but I too have had enough of people and their blind blinkered ways.  I'm starting to realise that a lot of people with MI feel like this about the "normals".  To be honest I think part of it is because while we are trying to get ourselves healthy and recover from our illnesses we are so "intune or sensative'"  with feelings, morals and the right way to do things and behave etc (even if we struggle with the behaviour).  I think our eyes are open and everyone'elses are closed and they just behave like sheep.  Manners have gone out of the window, people just do things to benefit themselves not others, everyone is so eager to trample all over someone else to get what they want - its been a long time since I have seen the good side of people.  I am learning to accept this.

Thats why I have my beautiful german shepherd and he is our life.

I'm 50 so I guess socialising isnt big on my agenda and I actually prefer to keep away from people because they give me the shits basically - the ones I know.  I guess you need to look at why you dont socialise, is it the anxiety or is it like me that you are fed up with how people act these days.  If its the latter unfortunately I dont see it changing soon so thats why my dream is to buy acres of land in the country, be self sufficient (fruit, veg, eggs and water) and have lots of dogs and be far as away as poosible from people OR BUY A TICKET TO MARS!Smiley Happy

Re: Isolation

Hello @Flower88,

I don't think I have met you before, it's nice to meet you 🙂

I think it's good that you are aware of where you feel comfortable and that is when you are on your own, I think a lot of people also prefer that. Although you also feel worried that this might lead to a lonely life, perhaps it's more helpful to focus on now and what is working for you because that could change down the track. Like @Change123 said many people prefer their own company and that might also include pets, which you may get down the track if you do feel lonely. Do you have pets at the moment?

Re: Isolation

@Flower88. If you think isolation may be a problem - is there a half way point that will work for you?
For example:
volunteering with a greening group - where you can plant trees or clean up weeds along our waterways. That way - you are around others, but won't need to participate in conversation, unless you want to.
The same with volunteering with an animal shelter. Or even walking someone's dog for them a few times a week. Gets you out and about - but your time would be spent with dogs instead of people.
Alternatively, if you don't feel there is any problem isolating yourself - do you really need to make changes?
Isolation might be a great coping technique foryou right now.

Re: Isolation

Hello 🙂

@Flower88 how are things for you at the moment?

You've touched on a great area, which I believe many people play around with similar thoughts and ideas.

Animals and pets were also on my mind when I read your post. I found this short blog which I wondered if it might be of interest to you Pets

Great suggestions already made by @utopia @Change123 @Lunar thanks guys!

Re: Isolation

Hey all thank you for the advice, to be honest I want to be alone, I'm not sure that is healthy but I feel my mental health is on the war path right now 😞

Re: Isolation

Hi @Flower88

Smiley Sad I'm sorry to read that you mh is on the war path at the moment.

Do you have 1-2 key people that you keep connected to? I don't think we need a lot of people in our lives, but reliable friendships/family ties/relationships are important.

It's the quality of quantity

Re: Isolation

@Flower88. I totally understand that need to be alone.
Ok - it may not be the healthiest option in the long run.
But in the short term it may be just what you and your body/mind need.
Sending you support. ♥
