@Shaz51 shazzy my sister, I'm sorry things are overwhelming at the moment. There's lots of information on diets for diabetics. Could you ask your GP for a recommendation to a nutritionist? Its really hard to know what's best without guidance.
Sending you hugs 🫂.
I hooe ypu have a nice Easter long weekend planned. The weather is beautiful in Sydney.

Thank you 😊 @Dimity , @Jacques , @Till23 , @tyme , @Healandlove
Thank you for the link @Till23 , just what I needed ❤️
Rang my second mum who I looked after her children for 15 years and she works as a hospital cook
She said you can eat everything but in small portions
See the kidney specialist next week and the doctor
Showers on and off here today
Had D1 and grandson coming on Sunday which will be lovely, wish the other children lived closer xx
Only one little hiccup on Sunday is that my mum would have passed away one year ago on the day

@Shaz51 maybe it's nice to remember your mum while being with family but a bit sad too.
My dietician tied most of my serving sizes to the size of my hand - eg the size of my palm or a fistful/handful. It's easy to remember and measure and allows for differences between you and mr shaz.
Getting 5 veg a day is sometimes a challenge and I've probably eaten more carbs lately so I should be more careful.
I made a lovely Thai style pumpkin soup last night.

Thai style pumpkin soup sounds nice @Dimity
yes roast potato is better than mashed potato
1/3 cup of cooked rice is recommend
like the diabetes nurse said , you still need some carbs

My dietician said you need some carbs too @Shaz51 but keto diets seem to be very popular. I don't want a high fat keto diet because of my cholesterol and triglycerides - maybe it would make them worse.
With carbs I try for complex carbohydrates and high fibre.

Hi @Shaz51 I'm not 100% on board with you can eat anything but in smaller portions. It really depends on your blood glucose control etc. You also have the added difficulty of your kidney function being less than optimal and that will make a difference to what your kidneys can clear from your blood.
I would also ask the kidney specialist for advice on diets, but I'm glad you have an appointment with them.
Sunny day here today, not humid, not too hot - pretty perfect weather wise really.
I'm glad you'll have some other company over Easter
I understand my grandmother passed away on mother's day.

I totally agree @Till23 with what you say because it is so hard getting that balance with diabetes with kidney disease
Because with kidney disease, the toxins are going around in the body causing other problems instead of the kidney getting rid of it
The doctor said last week that my blood tests numbers are going up heading towards dialysis in the near future
So one step at a time

Glad that you're able to take this one step at a time @Shaz51
How are you feeling about it?

@Shaz51 shazzy, I'm glad you got some good advice from your second mum regarding diet. So nice your daughter is coming to visit. Thinking of you as you remember your mum's passing anniversary. The grief of loss is always there. I'm grieving not having the extended family together this Easter. It has been 4 years since the incident between my husband and brother in law and 4 Easters where we've been on our own. It will never stop hurting. Hugs my dear sister...my thoughts are with you 🥰
